Congratulations to Jorge De la Torre Koch, leader of the Worldwide Internships’ affiliate office in Switzerland, for concreting a recruitment agreement with the Swiss Education Group. Through this agreement, Worldwide Internships Switzerland now has the opportunity to continue changing students’ lives by offering a very complete academic program through top hospitality schools such as the Swiss Hotel Management School, the Hotel Institute Montreux, and Cesar Ritz Colleges. This prestigious agreement is a great addition to our typical international internship offering.
You might be asking yourself, “Sending hundreds of students abroad per semester for internships isn’t enough for these guys or what?! What motivates the Worldwide Team to keep striving for more?”
Of course, one thing that keeps us pushing forward always is being able to share our international experiences with the world. Jorge is probably the most “Worldwide” person of the team. He was born in Ecuador of Swiss, German, and Spanish heritage, and lived with his family in Ecuador during his childhood. At the age of 18, he had the opportunity to move to Switzerland to learn a bit more about his cultural heritage, and that’s where his hospitality journey began. While he was studying at the École hôtelière de Lausanne, he had the opportunity to study abroad in Thailand, where he fell in love with Thai culture.
After finishing his studies in Switzerland, he decided to return to Thailand and embark on an exciting hospitality journey through Phuket and Bangkok. During this period, he worked at several luxury hotels like Cape Sienna as well as Kata Group and became a specialist in hotel openings. This experience, paired with his internship during his university days, inspired him to open Internships Thailand to help students live a similar experience. When he decided to move back to Switzerland to pursue teaching opportunities, Worldwide Internships had the opportunity to acquire Internships Thailand. This acquisition left us with Worldwide Internships – Thailand as well as our affiliate office (Worldwide Internships – Switzerland) – further increasing our international reach.
Jorge spent many years building successful relationships in the hospitality and education market. So it’s no coincidence that he earned the opportunity to help students acquire top-quality industry knowledge through this partnership with the Swiss Education Group.
To help you see what it takes to become this international, we asked Jorge, “What advice would you give to yourself when you were 20 years old?” He answered:
- Be brave – Don’t be afraid and push yourself into the unknown, that’s the only way to get what you want – believe in yourself and always be willing to take on any problem
- Always move forward – Keep learning about what’s going on internationally in your fields of interest, if you are going to really dedicate yourself to something, dedicate yourself 100%
- Work hard – Nothing is easy, so you must always have faith in your decisions; the world is enormous, you never know where you’ll end up – just as it happened to me!
We are very excited to see where this relationship leads, so that we can continue being the Passport to the Future for all of our Internship Candidates!
Thanks, Jorge, for all your hard work.
