<\/div>[vc_column_text]This fruity cocktail is a Spanish staple, but its origins date back all the way to <\/span>2,000 years ago, when the Romans made their way across the Iberian Peninsula and planted vineyards along the way. According to historians, the reason this drink was so popular was that in ancient times water was unsafe to drink and was used for bathing and cleaning, so alcohol would be used exclusively for drinking.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The first versions of Sangr\u00eda included ingredients such as wine, water, herbs, and spices, but just like with many other recipes, it has been modified over the years and it is now prepared in different ways around the world.<\/span> Today, S<\/span>angr\u00eda lovers also tend to incorporate orange juice, fresh chopped fruit, seltzer and even brandy. Although it is typically made with<\/span> Rioja and other Spanish reds,\u00a0 the recipes are different in every region, and there is even Sangr\u00eda Blanca, prepared with white wine.<\/span><\/p>\n

INGREDIENTS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n

  • Chopped fresh fruit (apple, oranges, berries)<\/span><\/li>\n
  • 3-4 tbsp brown sugar<\/span><\/li>\n
  • 3\/4 cup orange juice<\/span><\/li>\n
  • 1\/3 cup brandy<\/span><\/li>\n
  • 750 ml bottle dry Spanish red wine<\/span><\/li>\n
  • 1 cup ice<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
    INSTRUCTIONS:<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n

    1. Add your fruit and sugar in a large pitcher and muddle with a wooden spoon.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Then, add the orange juice and the brandy while you muddle again for about 30 seconds.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Finally, add the red wine and incorporate everything. You can add ice or chill in the refrigerator.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. To serve, garnish with orange slices in the pitcher or the glasses. Pair with some cheese, tapas, or even steak!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
