{"id":50805,"date":"2019-04-29T21:59:09","date_gmt":"2019-04-29T19:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/?p=50805"},"modified":"2019-05-02T16:59:25","modified_gmt":"2019-05-02T14:59:25","slug":"wwk-spring-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/blog\/wwk-spring-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Worldwide Week &#8211; Recruitment Fair Spring 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fun\u2026 Adventure\u2026 Stimulating\u2026 Exciting\u2026 Excellent\u2026 What is the first word that comes to mind when <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">you<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> think about international internships?? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are just some of the words used to describe our international interns when we asked representatives from 4 host companies from around the world that visited us this April. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From April 1-4, Worldwide Internships Mexico hosted six representatives from four of its most important international placement <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-50840 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/wwk2-1-1024x641.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"298\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/wwk2-1-1024x641.png 1024w, https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/wwk2-1-300x188.png 300w, https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/wwk2-1-768x480.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 298px) 100vw, 298px\" \/>partners: Mercedes Moreno and Iv\u00e1n Moreno from <\/span><b>Ritz-Carlton Abama<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; Eduardo Gonz\u00e1lez from <\/span><b>Grupo Manzano<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; Martha Mart\u00ednez and Anne-Marie Stevens from <\/span><b>Hyatt Regency New Orleans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &amp; Intrax (J-1 visa sponsor) respectively; and Jos\u00e9 Ildefonso Rocha \u00a0from <\/span><b>Hyatt Dubai Creek<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These international ambassadors banded together to interview a total of 64 students on-site. Culinary students got the chance to showcase their skills during a cooking test, wherein they prepared omelettes for all of the host companies to try. Additionally, the host companies were able to sample some of Mexico\u2019s most delicious treats, including tacos and papas con chile. It was a delightfully busy week!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Worldwide Week marks the beginning of a new annual Worldwide Internships event, wherein we completely revolutionize the way we <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-50839 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/wwk1-1-1024x585.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/wwk1-1-1024x585.png 1024w, https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/wwk1-1-300x171.png 300w, https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/wwk1-1-768x438.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/>place students so that they can build an even stronger connection with the host companies that will be helping them during their internships. We didn\u2019t just host a fair in Mexico this year, there was also a Placement event in Philippines last November (see more <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7oQg2jTHXMU\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and we can\u2019t wait to keep bringing such an awesome learning experience to our future interns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During this round of the fair, Worldwide Internships had the opportunity to sit down and get some career advice from each of the host companies, and we hope that it can help you as you move forward in your career too. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Martha Mart\u00ednez: <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Q: What advice would you give to future internship participants?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A: <\/span><b>Preparation is key<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and you should focus on two main skills in particular: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>English<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Practice as much as you can! Listen, have conversations, follow social media, watch videos &amp; movies, it\u2019s extremely important\u2026 almost anywhere you apply you\u2019ll need at least intermediate English<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Interviewing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Check out the company &amp; what it offers, the position, the location, how many rooms the hotel has, how many seats <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-50843 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/wwk5-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"435\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/wwk5-1.png 952w, https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/wwk5-1-300x124.png 300w, https:\/\/worldwideinternships.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/wwk5-1-768x316.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\" \/>the restaurant has. Make a list of questions beforehand to ask the interviewer &#8211; it shows that you are well-prepared. Remember that you are interviewing the company as much as the company is interviewing you to see if you fit with their goals and values! Make sure it\u2019s a good fit. Finally, check out your interviewer on LinkedIn or Facebook beforehand if you can, that way you feel comfortable with the name and face. Oh! And don\u2019t forget to dress professionally.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Eduardo Gonz\u00e1lez: <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Q: What do you look for in international interns?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A: <\/span><b>Desire and attitude<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We completely understand that interns come to learn, and that they may only have a theoretical understanding of the hospitality industry (or maybe even some practical experience). <\/span><b>All we ask of them is that they give it their best, always<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; the company is here to support their learning. \u00a0But it all depends on the intern if they are going to have a positive experience or not! Some interns finish one task and eagerly come looking to see what else they can help with; those are my favorite participants, I will always go out of my way to help someone who is going to get the job done with a positive attitude. In the end, <\/span><b>we share the same objective: to help and develop our future leaders.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Jos\u00e9 Rocha:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Q: How has internationalization helped you get to where you are today?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A: I started my career in 1986, and my dream then was to become an executive chef, which I managed to accomplish a few years after I got my start. <\/span><b>I came to Dubai 20 years ago, and though I sometimes miss Mexico, it has been a great experience to work for the same company for 30 years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
