One of the main requirements in any internship or job you apply for is an appropriate resume. A document that sums up your professional or academic experiences in a relevant way will ensure that the companies you are applying to get to know you and learn the reasons why you are perfect for the job.
We know that it can be difficult to showcase yourself in just one page, but this is your first impression with any company, which is why it is so important to make sure that it’s as great as possible. In this blog we’re sharing with you some tips to craft a brilliant resume.
Tell your story in one page! - Relevant facts only
When building your resume, remember to add only information that a recruiter will consider significant to the role you’re applying to. If you are applying for a specific field, make sure related achievements are detailed and specified. In addition to this, remove all unnecessary information like address, hobbies, etc, unless specifically requested.
No more buzzwords! - Use appropriate language
When listing your responsibilities, use past-tense verbs, not infinitives. Add your achievements, measurements and how or what you used to accomplish your tasks. This will demonstrate your soft skills & hard skills in action. Little tip inside the tip! – Every year, LinkedIn puts out a list of “overused” resume words, including some like: responsible, organized or motivated, among many others.
Keep it simple! - Less is more
Less is always more, so avoid overly decorated and flashy resumes. Although your document should not lack visual appeal, it should definitely be quality over quantity. Go for a font like Georgia, Book Antiqua or Tahoma and you can even add a subtle use of color.
