If you want to develop a traditional marketing career, don’t even try and intern in Thailand. However, if you want a shot at a successful career in marketing where you could possibly own a company abroad or work as a hot-shot expat, then by all means enroll and intern in Thailand. Here’s why.
1. Thailand is an emerging market
The most important reason why you should intern in Thailand as a marketing major is because the country is still an emerging market. This means the shifts that have happened in the big & developed countries -such as a huge e-commerce shift from traditional shopping- are about to happen on a large scale. You can be amongst the first marketers to help these changes happen, hence establishing yourself as an important asset in the industry.
2. It is an Asian market well connected to the Asian Tech markets
As Parag Khanna said: the future is Asian. So where else would be an excellent region to develop yourself professionally if not in Asia. And yes, Thailand might not be the tech developer, but it’s pretty well connected to them. Understanding an Asian market that has easier access to the technologies being developed in the region of the future will give you an advantage over studying traditional markets, technologies, and methods from the west.
3. The country is just breath-taking
A foodie? A business person? A hiker, outdoorsy or animal lover? Whatever you are, whatever you love, this country has it all. From buzzing cities that have rooftops open all night from where you can watch the sunset and the sunrise to beaches, mountains, jungles where you can feel alive and connected. To top it off? It has one of the best cuisines in the world, but as if that weren’t enough: it’s crazy cheap to eat out and try dishes that are world renowned.
