If you are here it is because you are considering going abroad during your university, but you are not sure when… Here, we’ll tell you the best time to intern so that you can plan ahead and have a great experience.
Typically, universities open their internship opportunities after the first year and their overseas programs junior year. However, this does not mean that you have to do it then. If your university does not define a specific time, we recommend doing them in your last semesters for these reasons:
Your first year is better for volunteering and extracurriculars
In these first semesters your academic load is very relaxed. Ask to shadow or volunteer at a company or organization close to home or your university. Or, get involved in student groups. This will allow you to gain some easy experience.
In the middle of your career, focus on you
Wait just a little longer before your internship, you don’t have the best knowledge yet. Focus on learning as much as you can and keep evidence of your achievements. And since not everything in life is work, go out and enjoy your youth and your time, your professional life will come.
Your last moments in uni are the best
Yes, maybe you are afraid to finish your studies, but this is not the time to slack off. You are about to enter the adult world, and what better way to do so than to be prepared. Internships will teach you not only professional skills, but also personal growth.
In addition, the chances of graduating with a job if you did your internship at the end, are much higher and, well, who can say no to that. And, if you want to live abroad, getting a visa and opportunities abroad are even better as a student, but a professionally prepared student.
So, plan everything in advance to make the most of every moment. Learn and enjoy in the first years, and in the last one, do your internship and distinguish yourself from the others. And if you are about to finish your degree, and you still don’t have your internship, look for help, so that the process becomes fast and efficient. Good luck!
