Interning abroad in Thailand? While Asia’s becoming more popular, destinations like Thailand are only for the brave ones. It’s still considered an exotic destination that only a few choose to explore. So, if you’re going to intern there, here are 3 things you shouldn’t do in Thailand… unless you know, you want to make great memories and have a lifetime experience.

Thailand is a beautiful small country, which means there are lots of places you can go on a day or two-day trip. You’re likely to be staying in Bangkok, so the first short trip you must do is to Ayutthaya. You will find the ruins of the old capital of the kingdom. Ayutthaya is about 80km outside of Bangkok and you can easily get there by train.

Another great destination near the city of Bangkok is Pattaya. You can get to the beautiful beaches of Pattaya in small vans within two hours. There, you can either party during the night or visit the Truth Temple or the Big Buddha during the day. Other nearby trips include Erawan, Damnoen, and Koh Samet.

In most cities having dinner or drinks on a rooftop can get pretty expensive, but not in Bangkok. Thailand is a relatively cheap country, so having luxury-like experiences is rather affordable, even for an intern. Here are some of our favorites: The Marble Bar, Octagon Bar, and Supanniga Eating Room.

One thing Southeast Asia is known for is the traffic, and the crazy bikes the locals use to avoid it. So, while you’re abroad, how about learning to drive a bike? It can be helpful for your commute to work, but also for those short trips we were talking about. Plus, you’ll go back to being an expert driver, knowing how to dodge all the chaos around you.

So, now you know how amazing an internship in Thailand can be. But, in all seriousness here are the 3 things you really shouldn’t do in Thailand. First, don’t disrespect the monarchy, next, don’t turn your back on the Buddha, and last, don’t attend animal shows or ride an elephant. Enjoy your trip!
