Most students, like you, think they aren’t eligible to do an internship abroad because their university’s career office doesn’t offer any international programs. However, it’s fairly easy to validate an internship abroad with your university. Here are three easy steps for you to achieve it!

[dfd_spacer units=”%” screen_wide_resolution=”1280″ screen_wide_spacer_size=”25″ screen_normal_resolution=”1024″ screen_tablet_resolution=”800″ screen_mobile_resolution=”480″ screen_normal_spacer_size=”25″ screen_tablet_spacer_size=”25″ screen_mobile_spacer_size=”25″][dfd_info_box icon=”dfd-icon-chef_hat dfd_icon_set-icon-chef_hat” delimiter_style=”dotted” style=”style-03″ layout=”layout-01″ border_color=”#f6b917″ title_font_options=”tag:h5|color:%23f6b917″ subtitle_font_options=”tag:div” font_options=”tag:div” line_width=”120″ line_border=”4″ title=”Match the vacancy with your courses”][/dfd_info_box]

Ask your advisor what kind of tasks you’d be performing at the internship position you’re applying for. Once you have a broad idea of the tasks your internship would involve, make a list of the courses in your major where you’d learn these skills.

If you have a program director or careers office at your university, talk to them about the internship options you’ve been looking at. Tell them how they’re a match with your degree and ask if they think you’re making a proper assessment when matching courses with tasks. This is also the right moment to change the position you’d like to apply for if you can’t find courses to match it with.

If your career advisors approved the list of subjects and your desired internship position, start the process to validate your internship. These processes change depending on the university, but most of them will ask for the list of courses and the position description you already made. Gather the rest of your documents, apply for your visa, and go intern abroad!

Once you come back some universities may require additional information, such as a letter of recommendation, an evaluation or work evidence in the form of projects, photos or videos. Be sure to check beforehand what documents will they be asking for when you get back, so that you’re not stuck handling international paperwork.

Make sure to follow these simple steps and you’ll have no trouble validating your internship abroad with your university!
